A four-step evening test
- Play a known feed on the TV for a few minutes and write down your local time and any interruption.
- Repeat on a different feed without changing device or network. This separates a single-feed issue from a wider playback issue.
- If practical, compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi on the same device. Change one condition at a time.
- Repeat during a busy household period. Include normal video calls or downloads, then briefly pause them and note any change.
What your notes can tell you
| Result | Next check |
|---|---|
| Only one feed buffers | Report that feed, programme and timestamp to support. |
| Several feeds fail over Wi-Fi but play over Ethernet | Check router placement and the path to the TV; ask your internet provider about local Wi-Fi. |
| All devices slow down together | Test your internet connection and speak with your retail provider if the issue persists. |
| Only the picture looks soft | Compare the source feed, player settings and TV processing before assuming a bandwidth problem. |
Use the result to choose a plan
There is no single speed figure that guarantees every feed or player. Compare actual playback on your connection, including your usual NBN service or mobile connection. Mobile data use depends on video quality and duration. Check your allowance before running a long test.
